Kristina Rus — Kiev outraged by a threat of sanctions from Germany (update: contested story)

Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that if Ukraine does not find a political solution, the government of the Federal Republic of Germany reserves the right to act strongly against the Ukrainian government, including the adoption of sanctions", - quotes the words of the German diplomat RIA Novosti.
It is because of this statement, the German Ambassador to Ukraine Christof Weil was forced to have a conversation with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Andriy Olefirov.
Ukrainian diplomats are very sensitive to the position of Western countries in relation to the crisis. However, this sensitivity is one-sided. In December of last year, Ambassador of Ukraine to the EU Andrey Eliseev very sharply reacted to the words of the same Steinmeier, that Ukrainians are not expected in NATO.
"Nobody can stop Ukraine from joining NATO!" - said the Ukrainian diplomat. The Germans, characteristically, were not offended, and no one called the Ambassador of Ukraine in Germany to the German foreign office.
Message: Germany is not going to fight over the Ukraine. It is not in German interests.
