Sputnik — EU Can Afford Anti-Russia Sanctions If Economy is Strong - German Minister

Maintaining the EU economic sanctions against Russia will depend on the overall economic strength of the Union, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said at a Brookings Institution conference in Washington, DC on Thursday.
Schaeuble of all people — the guy that is driving the EZ into the ground. Just keep pouring that austerity on.

ROFLMAO. The level of stupid is astounding.

But his supply side DSGE model tells him that full employment is just around the corner if he can just get rid of the rigidities and past these 'short run' perturbations.

We'll get nowhere until demand side Keynesian SFC models are back in vogue.

Right. It's a recipe for doing the same thing over and over ad infinitum ("in the long run") and expecting different results.*

Repeating failure without adjusting for feedback ("learning from your mistakes") is the height of stupidity.

*attributed to Einstein but it doesn't take an Einstein to figure that out.

This sounds like Europe will buckle under to US pressure and push to extend the sanctions in June. (Which means Greece will come under a lot of pressure.)

As long as the core is doing OK (although this is getting edgy), the periphery will have to "adapt" (suck it up, or revolt).

Only two things are infinite, the Universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
